What is the best window curtain fabric (thick and soft)?

I would like to find a window curtain on the internet to see if I can find something for a better value, but I don't want to run the risk of buying a thin, tacky, cheap, shiny fabric that looks horrible, no matter what the design of the curtain is. Is velvet the best fabric? What other fabric names should I need to know? I am just not expert with the names of different types of fabrics and I would like to be enlightened! Thanks!

1. there are many types of fabrics you can use. rayon/poly blend, poly/cotton blends, brocades,cotton, too many to list. i'm including a fantastic site i've order from in the past and very recently. they are having an amazing sale right now! when you order though the sale price doesn't show on your order but IT DOES on your credit card. they sell outdoor fabrics, drapery fabric, upholstery, etc. i have them bookmark marked! love 'em. and great quality too.
